At school today we talked about some foreign Chinese exchange students coming to visit. They’re coming on Monday, and we’re doing a special welcome, with Māori songs and chants. In return, they will do Chinese dances. We will exchange gifts (a Chinese thing) and eat. Now, as part of the Kapa Haka group, I will be singing and dancing for them in front. I only had one practice! But it will be okay. I’m supposed to be there at 8:30 on Monday. Another privilege of the Kapa Haka group is, after the welcome, we will represent our school and eat with them. The other classes will go back to their classroom. I’m really excited.
There are three foreign students in my class. All girls. And with each student there’s an ambassador. An ambassador is a student who shows them around the school and helps them out. They’re only staying for a week, so it’s not a HUGE commitment, but it’s something. Me and all of my friends (Ava, Isabella, and Lauren) signed up except for Lauren. Signing up doesn’t mean that you’ll definitely get the role, but it means you have a chance. Me and Ava signed up together, meaning that we would be ambassadors for a single student, because I am fairly new too. Isabella is new, but she didn’t sign up with anyone. Guess who got the role? Me and Ava, Sabella (another girl in my class), and Isabella. Except Isabella got the role with a boy in my class, Wallas, because she’s fairly new. Oh well. I’m just happy we all got it.
